The Tony award winning musical The Book Of Mormon, Currently performed on Broadway, was written and directed by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Emmy award winners and creators of the television series Southpark, who claim they have fulfilled an old dream. After gaining a big success with their animated series, they have decided to reach for Broadway stages as well, and on March 2011 they have premiered one of today’s most standout musicals, The Book Of Mormon. Those two talented writers are responsible for the act’s text, as well as composing and writing the lyrics of the musical numbers. Teaming up with Robert Lopez and Jason Moore who gained success with the musical Avenue Q, they have created a show so  unique that one cannot doubt it has been created by the same minds who brought Southpark into the world.

A unique satire

Since it first premiered on Broadway, the show attracts a lot of audience. The satire musical- the tale of two missionaries heading to Uganda in the intension of spreading the Mormon religion – is undoubtedly one of Parker and Stone’s biggest successes.  The Book Of Mormon has won nine Tony awards including Best Musical, while maintaining massive popularity daily and earning millions of dollars. The fluency of the texts and the musical production combine into a rare comedy and lead the spectators through a perfect evening.

One Surprising aspect of this successful musical is the wonderful integration between cinematic idealization, religion and our everyday life. Those who were familiar with The Book Of Mormon surely never have expected it to be the origin of such a successful Broadway production, one of today’s best satire musical performances. Each scene is an example of a true creation, the kind that inspires and influences the audience.

It is a wonderful opportunity to witness a rare combination of brilliant actors, impressive production, an amusing story and of course, a highly professional directing work. The Book Of Mormon invites you for an unforgettable journey, influenced by the spirit of Parker and Stone. It may occasionally seem to the spectators as if they are watching another one of Southpark’s episodes, starring the two main characters, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham. In their weariless attempts to spread the Mormon religion among the locals in one of Uganda’s remote villages, the two men need to face a reality that is not so simple to deal with and includes poverty, famine and malignant diseases. It is indeed a difficult reality, but the musical deals with it through satire and a variety of elements which turn the two Mormon’s journey into an unforgettable one. It is not a simple parody on the Mormon religion, or any religion for that matter. Despite the numerous obscenities, the musical hides a message that is full of hope, compassion and love for the human spirit. Along the obvious sarcasm tone, there is a moving story with a unique message. Together with the performance of the two leading actors Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, as well as the entire cast, the result is a brilliant and unique musical.
