The Spectacular Glory of Cirque Du Soleil
*Cirque du Soleil (Meaning in English: “Circus of the Sun”, is a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment.” Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and located in the inner-city area of Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier.
In 1984, two Canadian street performers Daniel Gauthier and Guy Laliberte founded a group of actors and dancers that will inevitably pioneer the use of drama plays mixed with circus arts. Little did they know that in the next few years, their group will change the way people see circus entertainment.
And so the Cirque Du Soleil was born, and for 20 years, they have wowed the world with their spectacular performances.
The global phenomenon continues as they added “Iris” to their string of epic productions. The latest Cirque production is the brainchild of Philippe Decoufle, a French dancer and choreographer. This is his Cirque debut, yet the production became a testament to his professionalism. To put it this way, his masterpiece was a $100 million extravaganza like it wasn’t really his Cirque debut.
The overall aesthetics of “Iris” will do no wrong. The production’s main subject apparently came to terms of naturalism. Decoufle put in minimalistic touches that clearly emphasized the story of how movies can expand imagination and change personal perspectives. However, “Iris” also had a fair share of certainty. The magic of its conceptualization is relevant to the golden era of motion picture, but it didn’t leave the audiences disenchantment. After all, the movie makes the world go round – and perhaps Decoufle wanted his Cirque debut that way.
“Iris” also marks the debut of some Olympic standouts in acrobatics. Its total 72 performers give justice in evoking the wonders of cinematic proportions. In fact, Cirque has managed to live a highly reputed status of choosing the best actors, dancers and acrobats.
You don’t have to be a connoisseur of all Cirque Du Soleil productions only to appreciate “Iris”. Its spectacular glory is a testament to Gauthier and Laliberte’s progressive groundwork. It’s Decoufle at his finest that never disappoints.
